Spitting Pig Central Latest News February 2011
February has finally arrived and although the weather currently seems just as cold, better things seem to be on the cards for later on this week. January was a quiet month by Spitting Pig Central normal standards but it was not without its highpoints.The main one was another film shoot which we took part in. We had no idea what the film was but it turned out to be Sherlock Holmes 2 and they had a pig and a lamb. Unfortunately the pig didn’t make it (in fact you could say its scene was cut!) but the lamb has gone on to feature being spit roasted in the kitchens. The pig was preordered a week before but the lamb was a last minute request at 4.30pm the afternoon before! One of our best assets is living just 3 miles away from the abattoir so we can usually get lambs, pigs etc at extremely short notice. Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Junior were spotted but alas no Jude Law or Stephen Fry. Anyway to get up to speed a DVD of the first Sherlock Holmes has been picked up in Tesco , we just need to get round to watching it before the next one comes out! On a media front Bill Grainger’s tasty weekends is being repeated on The Good Food Channel so still time to catch George in all his glory. The depot is now redecorated and we have taken delivery of lots of top up items. The vast amount of kit has necessitated a move into a further building but we are ready now for all that the season may hold. The wedding enquiries are still flooding in and the office is valiantly sending out quotes, tweaking them, and quite often tweaking again! Talking of weddings there are lots of enquiries for Royal Wedding street parties and the like. It seems that we are all determined to celebrate with William and Kate.Our pigs are all sourced locally and we took the opportunity to visit the farm in Oxfordshire during January. Lots of little piggies running about squealing and generally enjoying life. We like to source all our pigs from the same place as they come with the level of fat we need to ensure all that juicy succulent crackling as well as lots of lean tasty meat. We have also taken the time to visit our local farmers market to touch base with local suppliers who we also like to use.The new canapé ideas are still being mulled over; we have lots of new contemporary ideas which will be offered to weddings this year. The most requested canapé will probably still be a variation on the smoked salmon theme though, whether with a blini or brown bread, somehow smoked salmon and champagne is the epitome of an English summer wedding. Our salad offerings are also to be updated although once again I suspect that coleslaw will still be the perennial favourite. It does go incredibly well with a succulent pork bap just the right combo of crunch and mayo!
