Looking Back at 2011

Hello hog roast central fans, just throught I'd let you know how we have been getting on with this year as we always get so many questions. 2011 was super busy for us here's just a taster of what we got up to.

March  2011 - Perhaps the highlight of the month was catering for a little party of 40. All they wanted was a spit roasted pig, a lamb and a turkey to boot! Just a small feast topped with fresh vegetables and a selection of salads. A meal fit for a team of rugby players. Yes quite correct. It was for the England squad and coaches. It was a terrific day out with players racing Hi performance cars on a belly full of food! I hasten to add that the players were all very polite and courteous. It was a great follow up to the England v. France match at the weekend which I had the pleasure of watching at Twickenham.Later in the month we had yet another interesting day out in Barking of all places. We set up in the railway sidings to cook for 150 guests. It was a bizarre setting being surrounded by freight trains and HGV trailers. The day went extremely well and ended with staff having a go in the freight trains. A first for all..

April 2011 - This started with another film audition at Hampton Court. Earlier in the year we had a Roasted Pig for Sherlock Holmes 2 . However the lamb got the part. It was the turn of another star in Jack and the Giant slayer, to be shown later in the year.

May 2011 - The whole country is talking about the Olympics. Tickets are more than hard to get and he we are getting in for free. In fact we are being paid to go there. The only trouble is. It’s 15 months too early. It was an event at the Athelete’s  Village in the centre of the site. We had done an event there last year for over 2500 guests. This year we were asked to cater for 5,000 guests. In a mad moment I said yes no problem. It turned I was right thankfully. We left at 11 at night and arrived at 1.00 in the morning to set up . The night was spent preparing the various stations. It felt very strange in the middle of an empty city, which in twelve hours time would be full of workers, engineers.Everybody was fed within the two hour slot. We then had a thank you speech from the Chief Exec, who kindly offered us all a drink in his local (to work) on Friday after work. Sadly we had to settle with the praise and satisfaction of another happy customer . Fortunately we didn’t need any loaves and fishes on this occasion. Once again we had our bi-annual visit to the refuse yard in Bletchley. Another happy punter or at least 250 of them.

June 2011 - Now we are starting to get very busy. Strangely enough it was mainly Corporate events rather than weddings. Once again we had another film star required for Jack and the Giant Slayer. A fresh pig of course.

July 2011 - The beginning of July started with a bang. Oxford College Balls, just busy, mad and fun all at the same time. We then had another unusual request, or at least so it seemed at first. H.M.S Westminster were having a family fun day. This was to be held on board. We arrived at the dockside at 5.00 a.m. ready to embark. We loaded up and set up in the ‘heli-hangar’ . Fortunately without the helicopter on board. The vessel set sail and performed various manoeuvres in the Solent. It was a great day out feeding over 400 family and friends of the crew. Fortunately it was very calm, which made carving and serving a lot easier. I especially enjoyed great views of the Nab Tower and the Island (Isle of Wight), my former home.

August 2011 - Just another busy month with lots of smaller functions and parties. It just seemed to fly by. I must be having fun.

October and November 2011 - It was a combination of Bonfire parties and some scary Halloween parties. We now welcome on board Sodexo, for whom we have done numerous military events.

December 2011 - This has been a surprisingly busy month amongst the doom and gloom. It is perhaps the uncertainty which seems to lead people to still having a party to temporarily wash away the depressing news. Roll on 2012 !!
