Areas that I have covered are from Stratford Upon Avon to Wallingford and Banbury and as far as High Wycombe. I admit that I stumbled into with the inevitable ‘not sure what I wanted to do’ scenario. However I went to College to do an HND in Hotel and Catering Management., I even did some training at the Bicester Hotel and Country Club.A great hotel for conferences, meetings and just a superb 5 star hotel with a wonderful golf course.

Another great hotel that I trained at was the Randolph in Oxford surrounded by Oxford Colleges and schools. A superb base to visit Woodstock, Banbury and Abingdon. I eventually moved away and worked at many locations from Carterton to Wantage. A very broad base from which to further my experience. This was strengthened with a spell in Henley looking after 80 staff, serving 3000 meals a day. I eventually moved on to work for myself. My wife and I acquired a restaurant in Stratford on Avon. For the next twenty years it was a wonderful experience meeting so many different folks There were many diners ranging from the rich and famous to just some really nice people. Eventually it was time to sell the business and move on. A pub in Shipston on Stour was the next venture, open to the world and sometimes I feel as if I met most types and characters from ‘Fergie’ to Buggsy. What a funeral Buggsy’s was. The party started with the coffin, draped in the Union Jack, joining mourners in the bar, before being taken in procession across to the Church. On returning for the wake the pub was full all day with five of the mourners ending up in hospital. All for different  reasons. Perhaps the most bizarre was falling backwards out of the ground floor bar window. He suffered mild concussion. A day to remember, Buggsy never missed a good party.

Event was the next stop, well in fact all came together at once, overlapping by six months. A great experiences, whether at Silverstone, Culham,  and Shenington . All great race circuits. Then working at Milton I  met up with a good colleague, John Main. A terrific raconteur and entertainer who has amused tens of thousands at the castle. Perhaps one of the most memorable events was  a charity event hosted by Jeremy Clarkson. After tendering, Francie Clarkson awarded us the contract. A couple of meetings later Francie broke the news that she had some bad news. Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey would be attending the event at the go-karting circuit at Thame . After much planning all went well, and nearly £70,000 was raised for charity, mostly with Jeremy Clarkson as auctioneer. The not so celubrious events, such as markets in Barnard Gate and Chiselhampton still had memorable moments of organisation, as did some of the Horse Shows at Brize Norton  Kirtlington and Souldern. The Henley Festival and the Thame food fair were next on the list.

Spitting Pig catered for an informal wedding in Oxford last weekend. The setting was a beautifully decorated marquee at the bride’s home and there were a total of 120 guests. On their return from the village church near Banbury there was a Pimms reception accompanied by canapés served by our Spitting Pig waiters and waitresses. After the guests had sat down we served a delicious warm salad of goat’s cheese, beetroot and caramelized baby onions as a starter. The roast pig was served next buffet style with the spectacle of our chef carving the hog at the buffet. This was accompanied by herbed new potatoes and a selection of seasonal vegetables. The wedding cake was several tiers of cupcakes and we served these with the local ice cream which had been the bride’s favourite since she first tasted it as a child! While the band got ready to play, Spitting Pig cleared away and removed all our rubbish from the site leaving the wedding to carry on into the wee small hours

Two machines to be taken out today for hire. They are going to Northampton and to Buckingham for private parties. One party is supplying their own pig and one pig is to be supplied by us. The machine comes ready to go with gas and roasting tray, all that’s needed is an electricity supply and a quick lesson! The machines will be collected after the events and our customers have the choice of returning them clean or they can leave that to us.
