Our Approach

Spitting Pig Central caters for Hog Roasts from the Banbury, Oxford and into Henley on Thames and also the surrounding areas and further afield if required. Our philosophy is to serve excellent quality food at a fair price and to reap the rewards of repeat custom.

 As an experienced Outside caterer we pride ourselves on getting all the details for your event right from the start – it is vitally important for us to look good, so that you in turn look good. All our staff, from chefs to waiting staff, always ensure that your guests are treated courteously and politely, with attention to detail.

About Our Service

Spitting Pig Central has been a successful Hog Roast Caterer throughout Oxfordshire for many years. Our pigs are all sourced locally, and freshly prepared under the strictest guidelines and inspection. A Spit Roast is perhaps one of the simplest and finest methods of cooking that there is. Spit roasting ensures that the meat is made succulent by self-basting, so that none of the wonderful juices or flavours escape.

The spitting Pig, Hog Roast machines in Chipping Norton are uniquely and skilfully designed to cook a variety of foods and we can supply a wide range of other roasted meats including lamb. sirloin of  beef, chickens or maybe turkey for that Christmas touch.

The design of Spitting Pig machines allows guests to watch the meat being slowly roasted, oozing with succulent crackling for maximum impact. A pig roast is an impressive sight and is always a talking point with guests. Our tasty pig roasts are all served with apple sauce, stuffing and fresh bread rolls. We supply trestle tables and cloths for our service, disposable cutlery and plates, or real crockery and cutlery if required.

Spitting Pig Central is also a specialist at hog roast events in Abingdon, Didcot, Stratford Upon Avon and Faringdon. We offer a wide range of barbecued meats, fish and vegetables, with various marinades as required, and as always backed by a team of friendly helpful staff, Meats and fish can be marinated or seasoned to produce a wide selection of flavours from around the world such as Cajun, Thai, Jerk, Indian, or Oriental spices and flavours.

As well as the meaty bits we can also add a wide selection of freshly prepared salads, a variety of potatoes and a large selection of quality freshly prepared desserts. Unlike many inferior hog roasting companies we are skilled outside caterers with 35 years experience in the catering business and are happy to prepare and serve canapés and nibbles for your guests to enjoy before the main spit roast.

Our years of catering expertise mean that we can discuss a wide range of services and dishes. We are happy to suggest additional dishes as the occasion demands. We recognise that sometimes you may wish to provide your own dishes, or require a special variation or style. We are flexible and happy to compliment your ideas and work with you - tailoring our quotation to meet your needs.

On The Day

Before we arrive on the day, as your  Caterer,  we will always confirm and check timings and  the layout of your venue with you. Our mobility allows us to set up in an array of environments letting us compliment a romantic setting or a remote location. The hog roast staff will arrive at least six hours before your chosen service time – less if you are using our bbq catering service, but always in plenty of time.

Once we have prepared and salted the pig and started cooking we will work on any additional dishes that you have chosen, making sure that they are all freshly prepared and ready in time for service. At the allotted time our Hog Roaster will raise your chosen meat and put out your dishes ready for serving. Our chef will carve the meat, and if appropriate catering assistants will help serve. Once everyone is served we will check whether guests want a second or even a third helping!

Any remaining meat is left for late arrivals or another session, so no one is left out!!
Once we have reached the end of service we will clear all the debris and take all our rubbish away with us. We will always leave an area as we found it.

The choice is yours when you use Spitting Pig Central. It doesn’t matter how small or large your party is from 30 guests to several thousand, We are happy to quote on a package to suit most budgets from a simple Pig Roast or Barbie to a once in a lifetime party or event or even Hog roast hire for the do-it-yourself option. The are many styles of catering which can take you nationwide and even worldwide. Wherever there are people there will be a need for food and drink. Just think of the different styles and creations. I myself have covered areas from Thame to inner and outer Oxford, working for hotels to Contract Catering. From hospitals to oil companies in Marlow. From owning a high class Restaurant to good old canteen food with Compass. Areas that I have covered are from Stratford Upon Avon to Wallingford and Banbury and as far as High Wycombe. I admit that I stumbled into catering with the inevitable ‘not sure what I wanted to do’ scenario. However I went to College to do an HND in Hotel and Catering Management., I even did some training at the Bicester Hotel and Country Club.A great hotel for conferences, meetings and just a superb 5 star hotel with a wonderful golf course.

Another great hotel that I trained at was the Randolph in Oxford surrounded by Oxford Colleges and schools. A superb base to visit Woodstock, Banbury and Abingdon. I eventually moved away and worked at many locations from Carterton to Wantage. A very broad base from which to further my experience. This was strengthened with a spell in Henley looking after 80 staff, serving 3000 meals a day. I eventually moved on to work for myself. My wife and I acquired a restaurant in Stratford on Avon. For the next twenty years it was a wonderful experience meeting so many different folks There were many diners ranging from the rich and famous to just some really nice people. Eventually it was time to sell the business and move on. A pub in Shipston on Stour was the next venture, open to the world and sometimes I feel as if I met most types and characters from ‘Fergie’ to Buggsy. What a funeral Buggsy’s was. The party started with the coffin, draped in the Union Jack, joining mourners in the bar, before being taken in procession across to the Church. On returning for the wake the pub was full all day with five of the mourners ending up in hospital. All for different  reasons. Perhaps the most bizarre was falling backwards out of the ground floor bar window. He suffered mild concussion. A day to remember, Buggsy never missed a good party.

Event catering was the next stop, well in fact all came together at once, overlapping by six months. A great experiences, whether at Silverstone, Culham,  and Shenington . All great race circuits. Then working at Milton I  met up with a good colleague, John Main. A terrific raconteur and entertainer who has amused tens of thousands at the castle. Perhaps one of the most memorable events was  a charity event hosted by Jeremy Clarkson. After tendering, Francie Clarkson awarded us the contract. A couple of meetings later Francie broke the news that she had some bad news. Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey would be attending the event at the go-karting circuit at Thame . After much planning all went well, and nearly £70,000 was raised for charity, mostly with Jeremy Clarkson as auctioneer. The not so celubrious events, such as markets in Barnard Gate and Chiselhampton still had memorable moments of organisation, as did some of the Horse Shows at Brize Norton  Kirtlington and Souldern. The Henley Festival and the Thame food fair were next on the list.

Spitting Pig catered for an informal wedding in Oxford last weekend. The setting was a beautifully decorated marquee at the bride’s home and there were a total of 120 guests. On their return from the village church near Banbury there was a Pimms reception accompanied by canapés served by our Spitting Pig waiters and waitresses. After the guests had sat down we served a delicious warm salad of goat’s cheese, beetroot and caramelized baby onions as a starter. The roast pig was served next buffet style with the spectacle of our chef carving the hog at the buffet. This was accompanied by herbed new potatoes and a selection of seasonal vegetables. The wedding cake was several tiers of cupcakes and we served these with the local ice cream which had been the bride’s favourite since she first tasted it as a child! While the band got ready to play, Spitting Pig cleared away and removed all our rubbish from the site leaving the wedding to carry on into the wee small hours

Two machines to be taken out today for hire. They are going to Northampton and to Buckingham for private parties. One party is supplying their own pig and one pig is to be supplied by us. The machine comes ready to go with gas and roasting tray, all that’s needed is an electricity supply and a quick lesson! The machines will be collected after the events and our customers have the choice of returning them clean or they can leave that to us.

Fancy roasting the pig yourself? Every week we take out machines for that self cook option. It helps to keep the budget down and is an easy way to feed a lot of people. Not to mention the sense of achievement that comes with cooking your very own pig or lamb. Makes a change from turning sausages and burgers on a barbecue! The machine is delivered to you complete with gas and you will be given full instructions.  You can either source your own meat or have a hog or lamb from us.
